Noise/ smell in the common house
Most of this should be solved by design but in my opinion you shouldn't expect dead silence in the common house. It's nice to feel like you have a big space to yourself sometimes but people should be able to talk normally or a bit on the loud side most hours of the day . I think washing dishes and music can be negotiated depending on the time but that's about it. This is also something you should be discussing with others during the cohousing process so you all agree on what's normal . Maybe you all end up being morning people and breakfast is a big social gathering but late night you guys want whispers. Maybe your night owls and you cook a big meal before going to bed .
You gotta create a system to where maybe not everyones not totally happy all the time but you get the most amount of people using the common house as possible.
Back to the loudness thing, if you know there are readers / work from home people / video gamers that just want some sunlight and a change of scenery then you could design a space near a window with great lighting that's more secluded or design a quiet room. Second worst option is quiet hours and the worst option is maybe the louds or constant cookers choose somebody's living room to go to be loud / cook together in. You always want to have as many common house use hours as possible so that's the only reason it's the worst option imo.
Until next time 😎
